Shambhavi and Divyanshu Secure Gold with World Record at ISSF Junior World Cup

New Delhi, April 24: India has clinched its fourth gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup in Cairo, Egypt. The mixed team of Shambhavi Kshirsagar and Divyanshu Devangan achieved a remarkable score of 499.9, setting a new junior world record.

The duo had previously topped the qualification round with a total score of 632.0. The silver medal was awarded to the Chinese Taipei team of Tsai Chih-Ying and Chen Yu-En, who scored 498.3, while the French pair of Tiffen Poms and Gaspard Lécier secured bronze with a score of 434.4.

In the junior men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol event, Sameer qualified for the finals with a score of 573, finishing in second place. France’s Arnaud Gamaleri matched the junior world record with a score of 589, ultimately winning the gold medal. Sameer placed seventh in the final, hitting seven shots in the first three five-shot series of the eight-series final.

Gamaleri took home the gold with 29 hits. With this performance, India has now amassed a total of 12 medals at the Cairo Junior World Cup, including 4 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals, leading the medal tally. There are still two days left in the tournament.

Earlier on Thursday, Prachi Gaikwad won gold in the junior women’s 50-meter rifle 3 positions (3P) event, becoming the only Indian to qualify for the finals at the Olympic International City Shooting Range. Prachi secured India’s second gold medal in the tournament.

On April 21, Shiv Narwal delivered an outstanding performance to win the first gold medal for the country in the 10-meter air pistol event. Additionally, Narayan Pranav captured bronze in the junior men’s 10-meter air rifle final with a score of 229.5.
