
Patna, March 21: Sudden changes in weather have disrupted life across Bihar. From Friday to Saturday, the region experienced a series of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and lightning strikes.
The adverse weather has caused significant damage in several districts. Lightning has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, with at least ten others injured.
Rainfall has been reported in districts including Patna, Bagaha, Betia, Banka, Gopalganj, Raxaul, and Khagaria. Patna witnessed heavy rain accompanied by hail, while Raxaul is grappling with severe waterlogging. Lightning has also damaged trees, property, and agricultural fields.
In the Dumaria and Wazirganj areas of Gaya district, two farmers lost their lives due to lightning strikes. Similarly, a 15-year-old student in the Chakai area of Jamui was killed by lightning. In Mokama, ten laborers working nearby were injured by a lightning strike. All injured workers are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, in Araria, two children died when a wall collapsed during the storm, and another child was injured. A woman in Kishanganj also lost her life due to lightning, while around 4,000 chickens perished in an incident at a poultry farm. Reports of fires caused by lightning strikes on palm trees have emerged from Samastipur, Patna, and Muzaffarpur.
The adverse weather has severely impacted agriculture. Strong winds, rain, and hail have caused significant damage to maize and wheat crops, raising concerns among farmers. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for 25 districts in the state.
An orange alert has been issued for four districts, warning of winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h and the possibility of lightning. A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining 21 districts. A drop in temperature of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius is expected over the next 48 hours.
In Shivhar, continuous rain and strong winds over the past 24 hours have led to severe waterlogging in both urban and rural areas. A pandal set up for the Navratri festival in Kherwa Darp Panchayat collapsed due to the bad weather, but fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.
Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid open areas during storms, and take necessary precautions as the weather remains unstable across Bihar.
