Sehwag Advises Rahane to Stay Silent Amid Criticism in IPL 2026

New Delhi, April 7: Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has advised players to avoid unnecessary confrontations in response to Ajinkya Rahane’s recent comments about critics during IPL 2026. Sehwag emphasized that engaging in such debates is pointless, especially with all eyes on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who have yet to secure a win this season.

Under Rahane’s captaincy, KKR has lost two out of three matches, with one match ending in a no-result due to rain. Meanwhile, Rahane has scored 83 runs at a strike rate of 148.21 across three innings, including a notable 67 against the Mumbai Indians and an 8-run performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match against Punjab Kings was abandoned due to rain, where he managed to score 8 not out.

During a press conference, Rahane appeared frustrated when questioned about his strike rate, labeling critics as “jealous.” His sharp response sparked discussions, contrasting sharply with his typically calm demeanor.

After KKR’s initial matches, Rahane handled a question regarding Cameron Green’s absence as a bowler with composure, suggesting that the decision was influenced by Cricket Australia’s directives. Sehwag acknowledged this response but pointed out inconsistencies in Rahane’s tone.

In an interview with ‘Cricbuzz’, Sehwag stated, “I don’t think players should say such things. I understand he is the captain and was asked why Cameron Green isn’t bowling. He didn’t have a direct answer, so he suggested asking Cricket Australia.”

He added, “I can understand that, but if someone questions my strike rate or batting style, people will praise and criticize you. You should remain neutral in both cases. What’s the need to engage in such fights?”

Sehwag referenced icons like former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, noting that often remaining silent is more impactful than retaliating. He remarked, “It seems they are responding to critics, but Bachchan has never answered his critics. There is no better example than Tendulkar. I believe one should stay silent. Score a century, and everyone will be quiet. Stay calm and do your job. What else is there? I don’t think there’s a need to respond to such comments.”
