Ishan Kishan Sets T20 Record as India’s Leading Run Scorer in a Calendar Year
Ishan Kishan breaks the record for most T20 runs by an Indian in a calendar year during a match in Hamilton.

Hamilton, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Ishan Kishan made history during the fifth T20 match between India and New Zealand at Sedon Park in Hamilton on November 1, 2026. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored a remarkable 61 runs off just 32 balls, surpassing a significant milestone.
With this performance, Kishan became the highest run scorer for India in T20 internationals within a calendar year. He achieved this feat by scoring six runs in the match, moving past Surya Kumar Yadav, who previously held the record with 1,164 runs in 32 T20 matches in 2022.
As of now, Kishan has accumulated 1,220 runs in 37 T20 matches this year. He also crossed the 2,000-run mark in T20 cricket, becoming the third Indian to do so in the fewest balls faced. Kishan reached this milestone in just 1,345 balls. He trails only Abhishek Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav in this regard, with Yadav achieving it in 1,164 balls and Sharma in 1,024 balls.
The Indian team, batting first after losing the toss, struggled initially. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for just one run, and Sanju Samson managed only four runs. At 19 runs, India found themselves in a precarious position with two wickets down. However, Kishan steadied the innings alongside captain Shreyas Iyer, forming a formidable partnership that yielded 93 runs off just 43 balls for the third wicket.
Kishan reached his half-century in a mere 28 balls. His innings included five fours and five sixes. Iyer also contributed significantly, scoring 50 runs from 23 balls, featuring three fours and four sixes. The Indian team made two changes to their playing XI for this match, bringing in Varun Chakravarthy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel were left out.
