RPF Arrests Suspects with Stolen Phones, Illegal Liquor, and Firearms in Malda

Malda, April 19: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Eastern Railway conducted a special operation on April 17 and 18 in Malda division. This initiative aimed to ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers and strengthen the security of railway property. Key locations included Jangipur Road, Bhagalpur, Sahibganj, and Barharwa, where suspects were arrested for possessing illegal liquor, stolen mobile phones, and firearms.

Under Operation Nanha Farishta, RPF personnel discovered a minor wandering alone suspiciously at Jangipur Railway Station on April 17. Upon inquiry, it was found that the 14-year-old boy was traveling without informing his family. After necessary formalities and medical checks, he was safely handed over to the District Child Protection Unit and Child Helpline for further care and rehabilitation.

In Operation Amanat, a lost mobile phone was returned to its owner at Sahibganj Railway Station on April 17, with assistance from the Cyber Cell RPF after necessary verification. On April 18, a suspicious bag was recovered at Jangipur Road Railway Station from the Humsafar Express train. The bag contained personal items, documents, and cash, which were returned to its rightful owner after verification.

As part of an anti-crime campaign, intensive operations against illegal activities were conducted at Bhagalpur Railway Station and on trains. On April 17, during an inspection of the Sahibganj-Danapur Intercity Express, a man was arrested with a country-made pistol and six empty cartridges. On April 18, 75 bottles of illegal liquor were seized at Bhagalpur Railway Station, totaling 37.5 liters with an estimated value of ₹23,150. The confiscated liquor was handed over to the excise department for further legal action.

Additionally, on April 18, RPF personnel at Barharwa Post stopped a suspicious individual during patrol near Platform 1 at Teenpahar Railway Station. A search revealed three stolen mobile phones and one personal mobile phone. The suspect confessed to stealing mobiles from passengers on the Sahibganj-Barharwa rail section and selling them at Teenpahar Station. The recovered phones included one Samsung Android and two Apple iPhones, with a total estimated value of ₹225,999. The suspect was arrested on the spot and handed over to the GRP Barharwa after completing necessary legal formalities.
