New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Indian cricketer Rinku Singh has revealed his strong admiration for Manchester United, a passion that he credits to fellow player Nitish Rana. Rinku’s interest in football grew through Rana, eventually leading him to support the iconic club. Recently, he attended his first live football match at Old Trafford, where he witnessed the Manchester Derby against Manchester City.
This experience allowed Rinku to see the fierce rivalry up close, a stark contrast to his previous viewings on television. He shared his thoughts with ‘GeoStar’, stating, “I have always been a fan of Manchester United, and my interest in football has certainly increased because of Nitish. He introduced me to the sport and showed me how to enjoy watching it. Spending time with him, I naturally became a United fan.”
Despite being a dedicated supporter, Rinku’s experience at the Derby was bittersweet. Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory, with Erling Haaland scoring the decisive goal in the second half. Rinku admitted that during some moments of the match, he found himself supporting City, as United struggled to make an impact.
“As the match progressed, I caught myself cheering a bit for City. United wasn’t performing well, while City played better,” he explained. Nevertheless, Rinku emphasized that the match outcome was secondary to the unforgettable experience of watching live football for the first time. He reflected on the atmosphere at Old Trafford, which helped him understand the immense global fanbase of the sport.
“I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed the match between City and United. It was my first live football match, and the feeling was entirely different. I learned what it’s like to watch a match in a stadium. I had only seen games on TV before, so being there was incredible. The crowd’s energy when a goal is scored or when a player performs well is something you truly feel and experience in person.”
Rinku also expressed his admiration for Marcus Rashford, naming him as his favorite player. He praised Bruno Fernandes for his composure on the pitch, saying, “I really like Marcus Rashford. I follow him closely, which makes him my favorite. When it comes to calmness, Bruno Fernandes stands out. He plays with such poise, moving effortlessly on the pitch, and when the ball comes to him, he knows exactly what to do.”
