Mumbai, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Mithu Mukherjee, the acclaimed Bengali actress, has passed away at the age of 71. She had been bravely fighting cancer for an extended period. Sources at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai confirmed the news of her death.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) expressed their condolences on social media platform X, stating, “AICWA pays tribute to actress Mithu Mukherjee. She was a prominent figure in both Bengali and Hindi cinema.” Mukherjee began her film career with “Shesh Parbo,” and became a well-respected name in Indian cinema during the 1970s and 1980s. She is fondly remembered for her memorable performances in notable Bengali films such as “Marjina Abdullah,” “Nishi Kanya,” “Mouchak,” “Swayamsiddha,” “Hotel Snow Fox,” “Bhagyachakra,” “Sandhi,” “Father,” and “Ashrita.” Additionally, she appeared in Hindi films like “Khan Doston,” “Safed Jhoot,” “Dillagi,” and “Do Ladke Dono Kadke.”
AICWA remarked, “The entire Bengali film industry is in shock and mourning over Mithu Mukherjee’s passing. She was not just a famous actress but an integral part of the film community and a beloved member of the industry. Her departure marks the end of an era in Indian cinema.
