Real Madrid Eliminates Manchester City; Arsenal and PSG Advance to Quarterfinals

New Delhi, March 18: Major upsets unfolded in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 2-1, knocking them out of the tournament. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain secured their spots in the quarterfinals.

Vinícius Júnior emerged as the hero for Real Madrid, scoring both goals. He opened the scoring early and sealed the victory with a second goal in injury time (93rd minute). Erling Haaland scored the only goal for Manchester City in the 41st minute. With this defeat, Pep Guardiola’s team has now been eliminated by Madrid for the third consecutive season.

The Brazilian forward gave Madrid the lead after Bernardo Silva was penalized for handling the ball in his own box, reducing the home team to ten players. Vinícius celebrated passionately, avenging the taunts from City fans during their previous encounter.

After the match, Vinícius stated, “The last time we were here, Manchester City fans mocked me. I wasn’t disrespecting them, but it was my way of proving myself.”

In another match, Arsenal triumphed over Bayer Leverkusen with a score of 2-0, winning 3-1 on aggregate. Eberechi Eze scored a stunning goal to give his team the lead, followed by Declan Rice securing the victory. Eze opened his UEFA Champions League account with a remarkable goal, helping Mikel Arteta’s team advance smoothly to the quarterfinals. Despite a strong performance from Bayer Leverkusen’s goalkeeper, Janis Blaswich, they faltered when Eze scored from long range in the 37th minute.

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain defeated Chelsea 3-0, achieving an overwhelming aggregate score of 8-2. Bradley Barcola and Seni Mayulu scored crucial goals, propelling their team into the next round.
