Mumbai, February 26: In 2024, Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda brought the story of Veer Savarkar to the big screen with the film “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.” This film was significant not only because of Hooda’s acting but also due to his involvement in research and production. Despite facing criticism, the film managed to recover its budget at the box office. On the anniversary of Savarkar’s death, Hooda paid a heartfelt tribute to him.

Hooda shared photos related to Savarkar from the film on the social media platform X. In his post, he revealed that Savarkar died due to a hunger strike. He wrote, “Many have undertaken hunger strikes, but only Savarkar died from one. Very few know that Savarkar fasted until his death, or in other words, he took samadhi and ultimately left this world on February 26, 1966. Today, I remember him.”

Hooda holds great respect for Savarkar, as he made the film out of anger. Initially, he was hesitant to take on the role due to the physical differences between himself and Savarkar. However, after reading books on Savarkar and India’s struggle for independence, he became enraged.

In an interview, he questioned how freedom was achieved, noting that many countries gained independence between 1946 and 1952, and it was not through peaceful means. He stated that while our deities wield weapons, they are not symbols of violence. However, when it comes to protecting religion or existence, using weapons and engaging in violence is not wrong.

Portraying Savarkar was not easy for Hooda. To make his character realistic, he lost significant weight and remained underweight for about a year and a half, which had several negative effects on his body. His drastic transformation even concerned his fans.
