Ranchi Weather Update: Temperature Drops by 3°C, Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert Issued for Three Days
Ranchi, April 11 A significant dip in temperatures was recorded across Jharkhand, with the capital Ranchi witnessing a 3°C fall within 24 hours due to rainfall and overcast conditions. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to persist in multiple districts over the next three days, prompting a yellow alert.
Temperature Falls Across Key Districts
The weather disturbance led to a notable drop in maximum temperatures across the state. In East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur), the mercury dropped from 40°C to 36°C, while Daltonganj saw a dip from 40°C to 38.8°C. Bokaro’s temperature plummeted by nearly 10 degrees, from 36.5°C to 26.5°C, and Chaibasa recorded a minor drop from 37.4°C to 35.8°C.
In Ranchi, the temperature was logged at 32.2°C on Friday. IMD officials attributed this widespread cooling to pre-monsoon convection activity and increased humidity in the region.
IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert for Eastern Jharkhand
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorm and lightning from Friday through Sunday, specifically for eastern districts of Jharkhand. Districts under the alert include Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Dumka, Godda, Sahebganj, Jamtara, and Pakur.
Wind speeds are expected to reach 30–40 km/h, with intermittent showers and thunder expected throughout the alert period. Residents have been advised to remain indoors during intense weather activity and secure loose items to prevent property damage.
What to Expect This Weekend
The weather pattern is forecast to continue over the weekend, bringing intermittent relief from the heat but also posing risks due to lightning and high-speed winds. Local authorities have urged people to stay updated through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity.
With Jharkhand entering a phase of active pre-monsoon weather, the IMD continues to monitor developments closely. Farmers and daily commuters are advised to take appropriate precautions.
