Kolkata and Several Parts of South and North Bengal Brace for Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds, and Possible Hail
KOLKATA, May 3, 2025 – The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a storm and rainfall alert for seven districts in South Bengal as weather patterns continue to fluctuate across the state. After witnessing sunny mornings followed by intense afternoon showers, residents are now being warned of gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning through the weekend and into next week.

Districts on Alert for Saturday
According to the Met Department, gusty winds at speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected in parts of South Bengal, including:

These areas may also witness hailstorms and lightning, with conditions resembling Kalbaishakhi, the pre-monsoon thunderstorm typical to the region.

Though the intensity of storms may decrease slightly on Sunday, parts of South Bengal and western districts are still likely to receive rainfall. Affected districts may include:

North Bengal Also on Rain Watch
In North Bengal, including Darjeeling and surrounding hill districts, thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast through Tuesday. The risk of lightning remains high, especially in higher altitudes. Rainfall may intensify across districts from Darjeeling to the plains of Malda on Sunday.
