IMD Issues Alert for 12 Districts Amid Dust Storms, Thunder Showers, and Cooling Temperatures
Jaipur, May 4 Rajasthan experienced a sudden and significant change in weather conditions on Saturday afternoon, with multiple districts reporting dust storms, rainfall, and hail. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a rain alert for 12 districts across the state for May 4, as cities like Jaipur, Sikar, and Nagaur were hit by unexpected weather activity.

Jaipur witnessed a sharp dip in temperature, with mercury falling nearly 10°C within just two hours. Around 2:30 PM, the temperature stood at 35°C but dropped to 25.7°C by 4:30 PM. The city saw dust-laden winds followed by scattered rain and lightning in several areas.
Hailstorm in Sikar, Nagaur; Gusty Winds in Kota and Ajmer
Reports from Sikar and Nagaur confirmed hailstorms, while other districts such as Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, and Ajmer experienced strong winds and light drizzles. Overcast skies and gusty winds offered a welcome respite from the sweltering heat, which had gripped the region earlier in the week.
In the past 24 hours, eastern Rajasthan districts including Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, and Jhunjhunu reported overcast conditions and thunderstorm activity. Northern parts of the state also experienced persistent winds throughout the day, contributing to a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures.
Temperature Readings Fall Statewide, Pilani Records Lowest at 31.5°C
According to IMD data, Pilani recorded the state’s lowest maximum temperature on May 2 at 31.5°C. Other key readings included Hanumangarh at 31.9°C, Jhunjhunu at 33.9°C, Dholpur at 34.9°C, and Alwar at 32.5°C. Jaipur’s maximum dropped to 35.5°C. Cities like Ajmer (36.9°C), Sikar (37.5°C), Churu (36.2°C), Karauli and Dausa (both 35.4°C) also reported moderate highs compared to previous days.
The ongoing weather shift is attributed to a combination of atmospheric disturbances and localized pressure systems, as per IMD officials. The state is expected to see continued instability in the weather over the next few days.
