Jaipur, August 16: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced on Saturday that the state government is working towards implementing the ‘Rajasthan Civil Code 2026’. This initiative aligns with the spirit of Article 44 of the Constitution, which directs states to progress towards a ‘Uniform Civil Code’ for citizens.
While addressing the public after hoisting the national flag at the 80th state-level Independence Day ceremony at Karni Singh Stadium in Bikaner, CM Sharma stated that the proposed law will provide a uniform legal framework for all citizens across the state.
He emphasized that the government has taken several stringent measures to enhance peace and security. Referring to the ‘Rajasthan Disturbed Areas Act’, he noted its aim to prevent forced migration and property transactions in communally sensitive areas, ensuring that people are not compelled to leave their homes, ancestral lands, or identities.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the enforcement of the ‘Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act’, aimed at preventing conversions through inducement or fraud. He stated that the government is adopting a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy towards crime and corruption, resulting in a reduction in crime rates and fostering an atmosphere of peace and security in the state.
CM Sharma remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is gaining significant recognition on the global stage. The country’s digital public infrastructure and platforms like UPI are attracting international attention. He affirmed the state government’s commitment to achieving the goals of ‘Developed India‘ and ‘Developed Rajasthan’ by 2047.
He noted that the efforts of the ‘double-engine’ government have accelerated development in Rajasthan. He highlighted major initiatives such as the ₹79,459 crore HPCL Rajasthan Refinery project and the Mahi-Banswara nuclear power project, which are expected to serve as new engines of economic growth in the state.
The Chief Minister stated that the government has prioritized water security. He mentioned the rapid implementation of the ‘Ram Water Bridge Link Project’, estimated to cost around ₹91,000 crore, with work orders worth approximately ₹26,000 crore already issued. This project aims to provide drinking water and irrigation facilities to people in 17 districts of Rajasthan.
Additionally, he revealed that an agreement has been signed for a project costing about ₹34,000 crore to bring Yamuna water to Rajasthan, ensuring long-term drinking water security for approximately 7.5 million people in the Shekhawati region.
CM Sharma declared that Rajasthan has transitioned from a power-buying state to a power-supplying state. According to him, Rajasthan ranks first in solar power capacity and second in renewable energy capacity in the country. He also mentioned that the state leads nationally in components A and C of the PM-KUSUM scheme. Sharma stressed the government’s efforts to strengthen the power sector and support consumers and farmers.
During the state-level Independence Day celebrations in Bikaner, local artists and school children from Rajasthan and other parts of the country showcased cultural performances, highlighting India’s cultural diversity and enhancing the atmosphere of patriotism.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to achieving the vision of ‘Developed Rajasthan’ by 2047, while also emphasizing the need to strengthen security, water availability, energy infrastructure, and economic development across the state.
