Bhubaneswar, August 16: On Independence Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced significant initiatives aimed at enhancing education, youth employment, and agriculture. During his address, he revealed the removal of the six-attempt limit for the Odisha Civil Service Examination and the provision of free textbooks for students in grades 9 and 10.
While addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi paid heartfelt tribute to freedom fighters who struggled for India’s independence through non-violent movements led by Mahatma Gandhi and armed struggles led by leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh.
He emphasized that the history of India’s freedom struggle is not merely a tale of conflict but the first step towards nation-building. He highlighted key events in Odisha’s freedom movement, including the Blood Sacrifice of Eram, the Ghumusar Rebellion, the Praja Mandal Movement, the Khandha Rebellion, the Sambalpur Rebellion, the Bhuyan Rebellion in Keonjhar, and the tribal uprising in Koraput.
The Chief Minister noted that over the past twelve years, Prime Minister Modi has made visionary decisions that have positioned India as a leading nation in social, economic, and political spheres. Today, India stands as a nation filled with confidence, self-reliance, and dignity.
Majhi stated that, with the blessings of Lord Jagannath and the 450 million people of Odisha, his government has been dedicated to building a prosperous and developed Odisha over the past two years.
He outlined significant steps taken by the state government for the development of farmers, women’s empowerment, youth, education, health, skill development, science, technology, and other key sectors.
In a notable announcement, he declared that free textbooks, previously provided only to students up to grade 8, will now also be available for those in grades 9 and 10. Additionally, the establishment of 18 new government colleges in remote districts and four new universities in the state was confirmed.
“On this sacred occasion, I announce the removal of the existing limit of six attempts for the Odisha Civil Service Examination. From now on, candidates will be allowed to sit for the exam until they reach the prescribed upper age limit,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of doubling farmers’ incomes for the state’s economic growth, the Chief Minister addressed misconceptions regarding agricultural stack registration for paddy procurement.
He clarified to farmers that the Agri-Stack registration and the P-PAS registration are unrelated. As in previous years, the P-PAS registration will be conducted this year, and the paddy procurement program will operate on that basis.
Addressing the youth, the Chief Minister expressed the state government’s commitment to creating ample job opportunities by promoting industrial investment in Odisha. He also voiced concerns over attempts by self-interested groups, both domestic and international, to mislead the youth of India.
