Jaipur, April 23: The Directorate of Food Safety and Drug Control in Rajasthan has prioritized public health and patient safety by declaring seven drugs as substandard. This decision follows laboratory tests conducted between April 1 and April 15, 2026, prompting immediate regulatory actions across the state.
Based on these findings, the Drug Controller has instructed all drug control officials in Rajasthan to withdraw the identified batches from the market. Strict actions will be taken under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940.
Commissioner Dr. T. Shubhamangal stated that the department regularly conducts inspections, sampling, and quality monitoring to ensure that only safe, effective, and standard-compliant medications reach the public and health institutions.
Recent inspections revealed that several drugs did not meet the required quality standards, raising serious concerns about their effectiveness, safety, and therapeutic reliability.
The list of substandard drugs includes Cefixime Oral Suspension IP, Albendazole Tablets IP, Methylprednisolone Tablets IP 4 mg, Dextromethorphan HBr + Chlorpheniramine Maleate Syrup, Cefuroxime Axetil Tablets IP, and Ciprofloxacin Tablets IP 500 mg.
The Drug Controller has directed all government and private hospitals, medical colleges, pharmacies, and distributors to immediately cease the sale, distribution, and use of these medications.
Additionally, he has mandated rigorous and comprehensive quality checks on other batches from the respective companies to prevent any potential threats to public health.
The department reiterated that violations of these directives will result in stringent legal actions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940. All officials have been urged to enforce these orders strictly and ensure the immediate cessation of the sale, distribution, and use of the identified drugs.
