Rajasthan Governor Calls for Transformation of Universities into Centers of Excellence

Rajasthans Governor urges universities to enhance research and industry-focused education to meet evolving needs.

Jaipur, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Governor of Rajasthan, Haribhau Bagde, has urged the state’s universities to become centers of excellence by promoting research, innovation, and industry-oriented education. Speaking at a special review meeting for state-funded universities at Lok Bhawan, he emphasized the importance of adapting curricula to meet changing industry demands.

Bagde encouraged universities to develop programs that align with the needs of the job market and to initiate skill development initiatives. He also suggested inviting subject matter experts from India and abroad to conduct online lectures, thereby enhancing the academic experience.

During the meeting, which also reviewed ongoing construction and repair projects under the National Higher Education Mission (RUSA), Bagde directed universities to ensure that all projects are completed on time and meet established quality standards. He instructed officials to conduct regular site inspections and evaluate the performance of construction agencies.

Highlighting the importance of proper utilization of grants allocated to state-funded universities, he stated that the work carried out by implementing agencies should be certified based on established quality benchmarks.

The Governor pointed out that universities need to adapt to the evolving landscape of information and communication technology (ICT) and emerge as centers of excellence. He noted that organizing online lectures by esteemed experts would have a lasting positive impact on the quality of higher education.

Bagde stressed the necessity of understanding changing industry needs and developing academic curricula accordingly. He called for the integration of skill development programs into university education to equip students with relevant skills for employment opportunities.

Using Raffles University in Neemrana as an example, he mentioned that its approach to educating and training students in line with industry requirements could serve as a model for other universities in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Premchand Baidwa emphasized the need for universities to operate in accordance with RUSA guidelines. He also highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in the utilization of funds for construction and infrastructure projects.

Additional Chief Secretary Kuldeep Ranka stated that increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education is a national priority. Rajasthan aims for a 25% increase in student enrollment, with 76 new colleges established in the last two years. He noted that Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Alwar are being developed as integrated centers for various academic subjects.

Ranka suggested that universities should promote startup and incubation activities and strengthen practical education by appointing Professors of Practice under the RUSA framework.
