Rajasthan Declares 80 Tehsils Drought-Affected Amid Low Monsoon Rainfall

Rajasthans government has declared 80 tehsils as drought-affected due to insufficient rainfall, impacting agriculture and livestock.

Jaipur, October 26 (Daily Kiran) : The Rajasthan government has officially declared 80 tehsils across 14 districts as drought-affected due to inadequate rainfall during the monsoon season and damage to standing crops. The most severely impacted areas include Jodhpur, Jalore, Barmer, Balotra, Pali, Dungarpur, and parts of Jaisalmer.

A notification released on Sunday categorized these tehsils as either severely or moderately drought-affected. This decision comes amid growing concerns over crop losses, water scarcity, and the availability of fodder for livestock.

Yogeshwar Garg, the chief whip in the state assembly, stated that several regions are experiencing drought-like conditions, prompting the government to take necessary measures. He announced that fodder depots will be established in the affected areas, and farmers and livestock owners will receive all possible assistance. Garg confirmed that ten tehsils in Jalore have been designated as drought-affected.

The government has declared 12 tehsils in Jodhpur, ten in Jalore, ten in Barmer, nine in Balotra, eight in Pali, seven in Dungarpur, seven in Jaisalmer, seven in Phalodi, three in Banswara, two in Beawar, two in Churu, two in Bikaner, and one each in Nagaur and Sirohi as drought-affected.

According to the announcement, drought-related government provisions will remain in effect for six months from the date of issuance. The Disaster Management and Relief Department issued this notification after assessing factors such as rainfall deficiency, groundwater levels, surface water availability, and crop damage.

This declaration is expected to facilitate administrative and relief efforts in the affected regions. It includes arrangements for fodder and water for animals, along with other assistance under government regulations.

Rainfall data reveals that Pali recorded 58% less rain than normal, while Jaisalmer saw a 54% decrease. Jalore experienced a 50% reduction, followed by Banswara at 39% and Sirohi at 36%. Other areas, including Balotra, Jodhpur, and Dungarpur, also recorded significant rainfall deficits of 28%, 27%, and 24%, respectively.
