New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded to widespread protests across the country calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He asserted that both Kumar and the system that appointed him would eventually be removed.
In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi highlighted the significance of October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, stating, “Today, thousands of young people are on the streets against vote theft. They are exercising their constitutional rights peacefully and without violence. Their demand is clear: Gyanesh Kumar must resign.”
Gandhi further emphasized the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, saying, “Bapu taught us to speak the truth and fight peacefully. This is what frightens the government the most, as crowds can be dispersed with batons, but questions cannot.” He reiterated that both Kumar and the system behind him would ultimately fall.
Protests demanding Kumar’s resignation were organized by various groups, including the CJP and leftist student organizations, in New Delhi on Friday. A significant number of students and activists participated, leading to several arrests by the police.
The Delhi police enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Citizen Safety Code (BNSC), 2023, in the Jantar Mantar area. Leaders from several political parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party, attempted to join the protests but were removed by police, with many being taken into custody.
