Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Released After Detention at Kingsway Camp

New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Leaders of the Congress Party, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were released from the Kingsway Camp in New Delhi on October 6. Their release followed a brief detention after they participated in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the Akashvani Bhawan.

The incident unfolded when members of the INDIA alliance, led by Rahul Gandhi, staged a demonstration just meters away from the Election Commission office. The police detained them and transported them to the New Police Line at Kingsway Camp.

During the protest, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and MPs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Pawan Khera, and Imran Pratapgarhi, were seen sitting under a tree within the Akashvani premises. They attempted to push open the gates of the institution, aiming to reach the Election Commission headquarters located nearby.

In comments to the media, Rahul Gandhi expressed frustration over the police action, stating, “Three hundred MPs were stopped here, and then they made us sit. The Election Commission is just 50 yards away, and they are not allowing us to go there. I don’t understand what the problem is. The Election Commission’s job is to conduct fair elections. Three hundred MPs want to meet Gyanesh Kumar, but he seems afraid.”

He further criticized the current government, claiming, “What has been done to our country is treason, and no one will escape accountability. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, and Gyanesh Kumar have dismantled democracy in this country. The vote has been hijacked, and no one will be spared.”

Pawan Khera also spoke out, highlighting the absurdity of blocking the Leader of the Opposition from accessing the Election Commission, which was just next door.

Tensions remain high as the opposition continues to voice concerns over electoral integrity in the lead-up to upcoming elections.
