Chandigarh, August 8: The Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur has achieved a significant breakthrough in combating cross-border drug trafficking. In collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), they arrested two suspects and seized 30.200 kilograms of heroin during a recent operation.
Punjab Police’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, shared details of the operation on the social media platform ‘X’ on Saturday. He stated, “In a major success, the Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, along with the BSF, has dismantled a large cross-border drug trafficking network. Two suspects have been apprehended, and 30.200 kilograms of heroin have been recovered.”
Yadav further noted that an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Fazilka State Special Operations Cell police station. Investigations are ongoing to trace the connections of this trafficking network and identify all individuals linked to the handlers across the border.
He emphasized that the Punjab Police is fully committed to maintaining strict surveillance along the border and adopting a zero-tolerance policy against cross-border trafficking and drug-related crimes.
In a related case, the Punjab Police continued its crackdown on drug traffickers. On Thursday, a police team led by SSP Dr. Ravjot Grewal arrested two drug traffickers identified as Simranjeet Singh, alias Mowgli, and Gurpreet Singh, alias Bhairo.
SSP Grewal reported that both suspects had been heavily involved in drug activities in the Sangrur area. Mowgli was found in possession of 510 grams of heroin in commercial quantities. Following his interrogation, Bhairo was also arrested, with authorities recovering three weapons, three live cartridges, and 50 grams of heroin from him.
The investigation revealed some interstate connections related to the suspects, who both have a criminal history. Mowgli has four previous FIRs against him, while Bhairo has 16 FIRs registered at various police stations.
