Punjab MP Urges State Government to Cut Excise Duty on Fuel

New Delhi, March 27: Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a Member of Parliament from the Shiromani Akali Dal, praised the central government’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. She urged the Punjab government to follow suit and lower its own excise duties.

In a conversation in New Delhi, Badal expressed her support for the central decision and emphasized the need for the Punjab government to take this issue seriously, as Punjab has one of the highest excise duties in the country. She called for action to alleviate the burden on the citizens.

Badal highlighted the significant impact of LPG shortages on the common man, noting that gas cylinders are being sold on the black market due to scarcity. She warned that if this situation continues, it could severely affect the economy.

She appealed to the Punjab government to reduce excise duties to provide relief to the public. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of transparency, stating that the government should not mislead the public. She pointed out the contradiction in claiming there is no gas shortage while citizens struggle to obtain gas for weeks.

Regarding law and order in Punjab, Badal stated that the situation has deteriorated to a point where ordinary citizens feel unsafe. In the past 75 days alone, there have been 60 daylight murders. She noted that shopkeepers and business owners are living in fear, with gangsters operating freely even from prison.

Badal mentioned a tragic incident where a district magistrate lost his life due to threats from a minister. She insisted that the issue would not be addressed until it was raised in Parliament, and she called for the arrest of the minister involved. The Union Home Minister had assured that a CBI investigation would be initiated if MPs submitted a written request.

In her remarks, Badal also raised concerns about a conspiracy among some Congress MPs in Punjab, who, in collaboration with the Aam Aadmi Party, are allegedly attempting to obstruct a CBI investigation into the death of warehouse officer Dr. Gagandeep S. Randhawa. She urged Home Minister Amit Shah to order a CBI inquiry into this matter, asserting that it is entirely appropriate for such scrutiny.
