Punjab Budget Sparks Joy Among Women with Monthly ₹1,000 Scheme Amid Opposition Concerns

Chandigarh, March 8: The Punjab government’s announcement of a plan to provide women with ₹1,000 every month in the 2026-27 state budget has ignited discussions across the state. Many women view this as a significant step towards fulfilling the Aam Aadmi Party’s electoral promise. However, the opposition has raised questions, claiming that no one has yet received any benefits.

One woman expressed her excitement, stating that the Aam Aadmi Party is finally fulfilling its last remaining guarantee. She noted that the party had pledged to give women ₹1,000 per month before the 2021 elections, and now the government is delivering on that promise.

Another woman described the scheme as a “great gift” for the women of the state. She mentioned that the previous electricity guarantee scheme had already helped families save between ₹2,000 and ₹2,500 each month due to reduced electricity bills.

Additionally, another woman extended International Women’s Day greetings, emphasizing that today is a special and proud day as women are set to receive this long-awaited scheme. She highlighted the significance of women’s strength, noting that the assembly session is even taking place on a Sunday.

Local resident Prabhjot Kaur also expressed her happiness regarding the scheme. She wanted to congratulate all women, especially homemakers, stating that this is a crucial day for them as the Aam Aadmi Party is about to fulfill its promise made before coming to power.

However, the opposition has criticized the government on this issue. Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Ganiv Kaur Majithia remarked that no one has received any funds yet, stating, “Now we will see what the government actually does.”

The formal announcement of this scheme is expected in the Punjab government’s budget. If implemented, it will provide financial assistance of ₹1,000 every month to women in the state.
