Pune, April 5: A serious case of illegal cattle smuggling has emerged in the Pune district of Maharashtra. The Daund police station has registered a case against three individuals involved in this criminal activity.
According to police officials, the case was filed based on a complaint by Devyani Dilip Lone, a 30-year-old resident of Kunjirwadi in Haveli tehsil. She informed the police that some individuals were transporting cattle illegally and inhumanely. Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police initiated the process to apprehend the suspects.
The accused have been identified as Rahul Subhash Shinde (resident of Shirwali), Sanjay Balaso Vedpathak (resident of Sangvi), and Sushil Vishwal Sonawane (resident of Pandare, Baramati tehsil). The incident was uncovered near Chaitanya Lawns on Kurkumbh Road in Daund taluka.
Investigations revealed that the suspects were transporting six Jersey cows, valued at approximately 60,000 rupees, in a tempo belonging to an Eicher company, which is worth around 250,000 rupees. The police arrived at the scene and seized both the vehicle and the cattle. They have initiated action under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act and Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The most alarming aspect of this case is that the animals were crammed into the vehicle without any food, water, or medical care, indicating a cruel and inhumane situation. Preliminary investigations suggest that these cows were being transported for slaughter, which is a clear violation of the law.
Daund police have registered a case against the accused and have begun further legal proceedings. The investigation is being conducted by Police Constable Nikam, while the case registration was completed by Police Constable Chavan. Authorities have made it clear that strict action will continue against cruelty to animals and illegal transportation, ensuring that offenders are not spared.
