Provide night landing facility at Pondy Airport : Vaithilingam

Puducherry, March 23 : Lok Sabha member from here V Vaithilingam has urged the on government to provide night landing and take off facility at the Puducherry Airport to handle cargo operations. A release from the office of the MP on Wednesday said, he said this while speaking in the Lok Sabha on the Civil Aviation Demand on Tuesday. Vaithilingam also urged the Centre to extend Regional Connectivity Scheme to Puducherry. He also suggested that the Puducherry Airport could be utilized for Maintenance, Repairs and Overall (MRO). If the government is not prepared for this, the Centre can utilize the Special Economic Zone or any other special schemes to utilize the Puducherry Airport. Stating that a private party is very much interested in establishing a greenfield airport in Karaikal, the Congress MP appealed to the Centre to provide clearance for the same so that it may be connected with Puducherry airport. He urged the Centre to provide a ‘white paper’ on the disinvestment of Air India so that the Parliament members could know what is happening in Air India. PAB CS1635
