4,926 foreigners in Indian jails: Govt

New Delhi, March 23 : A total of 4,926 foreigners are lodged in various jails in India, Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Responding to Samajwadi Party leader Rewati Raman Singh, the Minister said that 1,140 of the prisoners have been convicted and 3,467 prisoners were under trial in various courts. According to data presented by the Minister, a maximum of 1,295 foreign prisoners were in West Bengal followed by 400 in Delhi and 380 in Maharastra. Among the prisoners were 1,630 from Bangladesh, 615 from Nigeria, 463 from Nepal, 152 from Myanmar and 107 were from Pakistan. ASU MR
