Ontario, March 5: The murder of a well-known social media influencer and critic of Khalistan has left the Punjabi community in Canada in shock. As of now, no arrests have been made in this case. Investigators in LaSalle, located in the Windsor-Essex area, are struggling to identify the perpetrators.
Nancy Grewal, 45, was fatally stabbed in her home on March 3. Emergency services responded to reports of the stabbing around 9:30 PM. Paramedics from Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services found Grewal bleeding profusely. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
According to reports from Khalsa Vox, Grewal was a prominent social media influencer and YouTuber within the Punjabi community. She garnered attention for her candid commentary on issues related to Punjab, Indian politics, and diaspora matters. Grewal frequently criticized Khalistani extremists and movements, including leaders from the banned organization Sikhs for Justice, such as Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
The report further stated that Grewal accused Pannun and similar extremists of tarnishing Sikh institutions under the influence of external forces, aiming to divide the community. She openly challenged Khalistan supporters, urging critics to address issues directly in India rather than abroad, and condemned the misuse of gurdwaras for separatist propaganda.
In a statement released on Thursday (Indian time), the LaSalle Police Service indicated that investigators are treating this as a “targeted” incident.
The local police service stated, “The LaSalle Police Service continues to investigate the murder that occurred just before 9:30 PM on March 3, 2026, on Todd Lane. The victim is identified as 45-year-old Nancy Grewal from Windsor. The LaSalle Police Service expresses deep sympathy for Grewal’s family and friends. To alleviate public concern, we are clarifying that investigators are viewing this as a targeted incident.”
Police officials have shared a contact number and are appealing for any nearby residents to provide video surveillance footage.
