New Delhi, July 29: During the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed her remarks against Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, asserting that she did not make any unparliamentary comments but merely spoke the truth. She emphasized that even if she faces punishment for speaking out, she will continue to voice her opinions.
Priyanka Gandhi stated that there is no justification for removing her statements from the record. She accused the government of limiting the issues she raised to a single incident, arguing that they reflect a broader mindset and behavior towards women.
Referencing an attack on women at a pub in Mangaluru, she questioned who had facilitated the inclusion of the accused in the BJP. Although the individual was later expelled from the party, she pointed out that photographs of his initial membership still exist.
Gandhi stressed the importance of raising questions regarding women’s dignity and safety. She reiterated that her statements in Parliament contained nothing that could be deemed unparliamentary. She pledged to continue addressing public issues in the future.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor targeted the government during discussions on the ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.’ He argued that merely instituting penalties will not resolve the issue; instead, concrete measures must be taken to prevent incidents like paper leaks.
Tharoor asserted that anyone who jeopardizes students’ futures should face punishment, but it is equally crucial to strengthen the system alongside creating laws.
He raised concerns about the fast-track court system, noting that the judiciary is already under significant pressure. He claimed that while many new cases emerged in fast-track courts in 2025, only a limited number were resolved. He emphasized that simply passing laws does not guarantee justice; judicial capacity and resources must be enhanced.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi also questioned the examination system and the government’s accountability. He pointed out that while discussions on such a critical topic were taking place, neither the Prime Minister nor the Home Minister was present in the House. He insisted that the Home Minister should respond to the opposition’s demands, questioning how answers could be provided in their absence.
Gogoi accused the government of evading accountability on educational issues. He mentioned that the opposition raised their voices during question hour against the injustices faced by students and their parents. He added that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would address this issue in the Lok Sabha.
Congress MP K. Suresh reiterated that the opposition is consistently pressuring the government regarding students’ concerns. He noted that they have opposed the flaws in the examination system and the government’s decision to conduct central examinations. He stated that Rahul Gandhi would raise the issues faced by students and their parents in the House, and his speech would be significant.
In response to a question regarding a tweet from former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, K. Suresh remarked that these are standard matters. He informed that Vijayan had written to the Chief Minister, and the state government had already directed an investigation into these issues.
