Priyank Kharge Criticizes Kumaraswamy, Urges for Dignity and Honesty in Speech

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge criticizes HD Kumaraswamy, urging him to maintain dignity and truthfulness in his public statements.

Bengaluru, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka’s Home and IT Minister Priyank Kharge launched a sharp critique of central minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday. He accused Kumaraswamy of making contradictory statements and targeting former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Kharge family politically.

In a media interaction, Kharge referenced a Kannada proverb that translates to “a tongue without restraint and words spoken thoughtlessly.” He asserted that this saying aptly describes Kumaraswamy’s character.

Kharge pointed out that Kumaraswamy seems unclear about his own statements, questioning whether he remembers what he said yesterday, what he is saying today, and what he will say tomorrow.

He remarked, “Using Siddaramaiah as a pretext, he points fingers at the Chief Minister, then at Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, and again at the Kharge family.”

Accusing Kumaraswamy of sowing discord for political gain, Kharge stated that setting fire to someone else’s house to cook one’s own meal is a destructive act. He expressed hope that Kumaraswamy understands the implications of his actions.

Kharge further claimed that Kumaraswamy was the one who humiliated Siddaramaiah the most and obstructed his path to becoming Chief Minister, a fact that is evident in Karnataka’s political history.

When questioned about an ongoing controversy regarding a sting video, Kharge asked why members of Kumaraswamy’s IT cell were not appearing for inquiries and why Kumaraswamy could not confidently state that his associates had no role in releasing the video.

He also inquired why Kumaraswamy had not condemned the video being uploaded and whether there was a conspiracy during his trip to the United States under the guise of the Akka conference.

Kharge directly challenged Kumaraswamy, asking, “Will you say anything about this, Kumaranna?”

Additionally, Kharge alleged that Kumaraswamy could not tolerate the success of his brother’s family and questioned whether he could expect to tolerate others.

He advised Kumaraswamy to maintain dignity in his speech, adopt a habit of speaking the truth, and demonstrate greater maturity in his conduct.

Earlier, Kumaraswamy had urged JD(S) workers not to fear police officers who harass them. He encouraged them to document the names of those officials acting unlawfully and intruding into their homes under political pressure, asserting that time would provide answers.

Kumaraswamy expressed awareness of the police officers’ actions and the pressures they face, advising workers not to lose hope.

He stated, “At most, just one more year, and then we will come to power and settle scores, but respect those officers who work for the public without violating the law.”

In response, Kumaraswamy criticized Kharge, attributing Congress’s defeats in four assembly constituencies to his misgovernance and abuse of power, and accused him of turning the police department into a puppet.
