Mumbai, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Dalip Tahil, a notable figure in Hindi cinema, has captivated audiences with his ability to portray characters much older than his actual age. Born on October 30, 1952, in Agra, Tahil made his debut in the film industry with the 1974 film “Ankur,” directed by Shyam Benegal. However, his role was minimal, and it took him nearly six years to find consistent work in films.
After moving to Mumbai in 1968, he joined the Bombay Theatre Group, where he honed his acting skills under the guidance of renowned directors like Elic and Pearl Padamsee. During his early career, he faced significant challenges, including a lack of roles. To support himself, he turned to modeling and recorded jingles for advertisements.
His breakthrough came with the 1988 film “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak,” where he played Aamir Khan’s father, Jaswant Singh. At just 31 years old, Tahil accepted the role, even though Khan was only 23. This casting decision showcased his talent, proving that age is not a barrier in acting.
Tahil initially aspired to be a leading man but found success in character and negative roles. His portrayal of Madan Chopra in the 1993 film “Baazigar” solidified his place in the hearts of viewers, making him a household name.
