Prime Minister Modi Extends Birthday Wishes to HD Deve Gowda, Acknowledges His Contributions to Nation Building

New Delhi, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt birthday wishes to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Monday. He praised Deve Gowda for his significant contributions to the nation throughout his extensive public life.

In a post on the social media platform X, Modi wrote, “Warm wishes to HD Deve Gowda on his birthday. During his long tenure in public life, he has made remarkable contributions to our nation. He is known for his deep understanding of policy issues and his passion for serving the underprivileged. I wish him a long and healthy life.”

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also conveyed his birthday greetings, stating, “Heartfelt wishes to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on his birthday. He has made notable contributions to India’s development, particularly in safeguarding the interests of farmers. I wish him good health and longevity.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined in the celebrations, posting on X, “Warm birthday wishes to former Prime Minister and politician HD Deve Gowda. He is a true son of the soil. His lifelong dedication to farmers and rural India has left an indelible mark on our nation. May God grant him a long life and good health.”

BJP National President Nitin Naveen also sent his birthday wishes, stating, “Heartfelt wishes to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on his birthday. As an experienced leader and a true son of the soil, your lifelong dedication to the welfare of farmers and the development of rural India is truly inspiring. I pray for your good health, happiness, and a long life dedicated to serving the nation.”

HD Deve Gowda was born on May 18, 1933, in Hadanahalli village, Holenarasipur taluk, Hassan district of Karnataka. He is recognized as a strong advocate for socio-economic development and a promoter of India’s rich cultural heritage. Deve Gowda is known for his simple lifestyle, grassroots connection, and dedication to farmers’ interests.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991, where he prominently raised farmers’ issues on a national platform. Later, he became the Karnataka President of the Janata Dal and served as the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka in 1994.

As Chief Minister, he addressed numerous administrative and political challenges. He entered national politics in 1996 and became the 11th Prime Minister of India on June 1, 1996, leading the United Front coalition government, although his tenure lasted just about a year.
