New Delhi, August 24: Political tensions have escalated in Ayodhya following a fish feast allegedly hosted by Congress state president Ajay Rai. Leaders from the Congress and Samajwadi Party have expressed their objections to the questions raised about dietary choices. They argue that an individual’s eating habits should not become a matter of political controversy.
Congress MP Imran Masood targeted the BJP, stating, “You were consuming fish in Bengal. Wherever elections occur, you don local attire and perform theatrics. Political parties change their behavior and messaging across different states. In North India, one policy is adopted; in South India, another; in Goa, a third; and in Meghalaya, a fourth.” He questioned why they cannot maintain a consistent policy nationwide.
Former Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan from Moradabad commented that the event in question was a conference for the Nishad community, which is heavily involved in fishing and related businesses. He sees no wrongdoing in organizing a fish-related event. “Eating or not eating fish is a personal choice, and politicizing it is inappropriate,” he stated.
Referring to Ajay Rai’s remarks, Hasan challenged anyone to produce evidence of Rai eating fish. He questioned the basis of allegations against Rai if he has not consumed fish.
Hasan emphasized that political parties should focus on real issues affecting the public rather than trivial matters. He pointed out that discussions about what people eat, wear, or say distract from the core issues facing citizens. He highlighted the rising cost of living, stating that the common man is struggling with inflation, and political parties should address this instead. According to him, creating controversies around food and attire diverts attention from pressing concerns like inflation and other critical issues.
