New Delhi, April 28: The political landscape in Delhi is heating up once again over the promise of providing ₹2500 to women every month. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and opposition leader in the assembly, Atishi, has targeted the Delhi government.
Before a special one-day session of the Delhi Assembly, Atishi stated that the promise made by the Prime Minister in January 2025 under the ‘Modi Guarantee’ has completely failed. She reminded everyone that during International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, it was promised that ₹2500 would be deposited into the accounts of Delhi’s women. However, both 2025 and 2026 have passed without a single rupee being credited.
Atishi accused the BJP of betraying the women of Delhi and pointed out that electoral promises are now being made in other states, particularly West Bengal. She emphasized that women in Delhi are still asking when they will receive the ₹2500 in their accounts. Additionally, she criticized the weakening of facilities such as free travel for women on DTC buses and the functioning of Mohalla Clinics.
She noted that while women previously enjoyed hassle-free travel, they now have to stand in long lines for the ‘Pink Card.’ The Mohalla Clinic system has also been affected, forcing women to struggle for medical treatment.
AAP leader Sanjeev Jha remarked that the Delhi Assembly is being used for political purposes. He stressed that merely introducing a women’s reservation bill will not empower women; providing them with rights and financial assistance is essential. He also highlighted that many elderly and widowed women’s pensions have been stalled, exacerbating their problems.
Meanwhile, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar pointed out that the BJP has yet to fulfill its election promise. He questioned why there is silence on the ₹2500 promise in Delhi when West Bengal is discussing a ₹3000 scheme. AAP leaders have demanded that the BJP government clarify when the ₹2500 will be transferred to women’s accounts during the special assembly session.
