New Delhi, August 12: The ongoing monsoon session of Parliament has witnessed intense political exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition over various issues. BJP leaders have accused the opposition of disrupting the proceedings, while opposition figures have expressed solidarity with students protesting against injustice and have called for discussions on the Ram Mandir donation controversy.
Regarding the FCRA Bill, Union Minister Giriraj Singh stated that there is nothing in the bill to warrant fear. He emphasized that there are established rules and laws in the country governing who can send money from abroad and under what circumstances it can be accepted. He questioned the opposition’s concerns, suggesting that only those who misuse or violate regulations should be worried.
In response to student protests in Jharkhand, Samajwadi Party MP Rajiv Rai admitted he was unaware of the specifics of the students’ statements during the demonstrations. However, he affirmed that the Samajwadi Party will stand with students wherever injustice occurs. Concerning the alleged misappropriation of donations for the Ram Mandir, Rai insisted that the issue should be discussed in the House. He raised concerns about the political support gained through these donations and questioned why there should be avoidance of discussing the allegations of theft.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal countered the opposition’s accusations, asking what more they could claim. He noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is prepared to respond in the House, but the opposition seems intent on obstructing proceedings. He stressed that the public expects discussions on bills and for MPs to voice their opinions. While discussions on the bill are ongoing in the Rajya Sabha, disruptions continue to plague the proceedings.
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale also criticized the opposition for the ongoing disruptions, stating that such behavior is detrimental to democracy. He warned that opposition parties may face defeat in the upcoming elections. He emphasized the crucial role of opposition parties in democracy, urging them to fulfill their responsibilities by questioning the government and engaging in discussions, rather than continually disrupting the House.
BJP MP Harbhajan Singh expressed grave concern over the rising drug problem in Punjab. He lamented that this issue has caused him significant distress. Punjab has been known for its prosperity, sports, love, and brotherhood, and he cannot accept the current state of affairs. He highlighted that if the youth of Punjab are falling prey to addiction and do not know how to escape it, it becomes a societal responsibility, not just a governmental one. The state’s identity, once linked to positive achievements and a prosperous life, is now overshadowed by the drug crisis.
Singh further stated that more proactive measures should have been taken earlier. Had sufficient action been taken in time, there would not be so many videos related to drug issues emerging from Punjab, nor would there be such extensive discussions about it. He called on the government to take concrete action regarding this matter. He also shared details of his meeting with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, where they discussed issues related to three trains connecting to Amb in Himachal Pradesh.
