New Delhi, March 1: Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a joint strike by the United States and Israel, strong political reactions have emerged from across India. Leaders from various parties condemned the attack and expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East. Indian politicians urged restraint to prevent further conflict.
Mir Firasat Ali Baqri, spokesperson for the BJP’s Telangana Minority Front, denounced the attack during a tribute at the Iranian Cultural Office. He stated, “The cowardly assault by the U.S. and Israel on Khamenei is reprehensible. I have come to pay my respects to all the martyrs on behalf of myself and my party.”
He added, “This is a loss not just for the entire Muslim community but for all of India. The damage done is irreparable. No amount of condemnation can suffice.”
Saurabh Bhardwaj, president of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, also criticized the escalating Israel-Iran conflict, linking it to the weakening of global institutions. He remarked, “When the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and Security Council fail, conflicts are resolved through war.” He claimed, “In recent years, as right-wing forces have risen to power in various parts of the world, institutions have deteriorated. This has been a consistent trend.”
Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated, “We have not witnessed such conflict since World War II. Now, countries are targeting each other, and for the sake of humanity, this must not escalate further.”
These comments come amid heightened global tensions following the high-profile strike that sent shockwaves across the Middle East and beyond. Khamenei’s death marks a potential turning point in Iran’s 46-year-old Shia theocratic regime. Even before Tehran’s retaliation, new hostilities had begun in parts of the region.
The fear of a larger regional conflict has increased following these events. World leaders are closely monitoring the situation and calling for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
