
Dhanbad, March 8: A fierce encounter occurred on Sunday between police and notorious criminals in Dhanbad, resulting in the injury of a shooter from the Prince Khan gang and a sub-inspector also sustaining a gunshot wound. The incident took place near Dhanbad Public School, where police had responded to reports of extortion.
According to police sources, they received credible information about extortion activities in the area. Acting on this tip-off, a team from the Saraiyadih police station arrived at the scene. Upon noticing the police presence, the criminals launched an attack using bombs and gunfire. The police quickly retaliated.
In the exchange of fire, shooter Sudhish Ojha from the Prince Khan gang was severely injured, sustaining gunshot wounds to both legs. Meanwhile, sub-inspector Balmukund Singh was shot in the hand during the encounter. Both injured individuals were promptly admitted to Asharfi Hospital, where their conditions are reported to be stable.
Dhanbad’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Prabhat Kumar, informed the media at the scene that the criminals had come to collect extortion money. Upon receiving the information, the police cordoned off the area. During the blockade, the criminals attempted to flee and opened fire first. One bullet struck sub-inspector Singh in the hand, and a bomb was also thrown at the police, but they responded with caution.
The SSP reported that two criminals were present at the scene. Shooter Sudhish Ojha fell injured, while his accomplice managed to escape. In response, police have launched extensive raids to capture the fleeing criminal. A live bomb was recovered from the site, prompting the involvement of the FSL team for deactivation.
Following the incident, panic ensued in the area. Local residents took shelter in their homes, and shops closed. The police have initiated an investigation by cordoning off the area. The Prince Khan gang has been active in extortion, robbery, and other crimes in Dhanbad and surrounding regions. The gang’s leader, Haider Ali, also known as Prince Khan, is already on the most-wanted list.
The SSP emphasized that a zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals will continue. Special teams have been formed to ensure the swift arrest of the fugitive. The investigation will also utilize CCTV footage and other evidence.
