Oslo, May 18: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Norway’s highest honor. On Monday, Norway conferred upon him the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. This marks the 32nd international accolade for PM Modi.
Just a day earlier, he received Sweden’s highest honor, the Royal Order of the Polar Star (Commander Grand Cross).
On Monday, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. During this meeting, both nations signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) across various sectors. Following their discussions, the two leaders addressed the media.
The Indian community in Norway warmly welcomed PM Modi. He expressed his emotions through a post, stating, “The welcome event by the Indian community in Oslo showcased the ‘Rhythms of India,’ beautifully reflecting India’s cultural diversity. From Sattriya to Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi to Odissi, and Kathak to Mohiniyattam, each dance style embodies years of dedication, discipline, and excellence. We take pride in our expatriate Indians for keeping India’s culture vibrant and cherished.”
PM Modi also noted, “I am proud that our expatriate Indian community is enriching and empowering India’s cultural heritage.” During the welcome event, young girls performed classical dance, including an Alarippu dance related to Bharatanatyam, presented by a group from the Natyalaya Dance School. This group has been promoting India’s cultural traditions in Norway for nearly three decades, which is truly commendable.
In a display of unity, a group of local and foreign artists sang the devotional song “Aarti Om Jai Jagdish.” PM Modi remarked, “The beautiful reflection of unity through music, culture, and shared artistic spirit was witnessed in ‘Sath Sath.’ I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the team from the Barratt Due Music Institute for presenting the soulful fusion of Indian and Western classical traditions.”
Earlier on Monday, PM Modi arrived in Oslo, where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at the airport. The two leaders discussed trade, investment, green energy, and global issues. PM Modi emphasized that the agreements made between India and Norway would benefit the entire world.
