
Rome, May 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora and various artists in Rome on Wednesday. They expressed pride in India’s growing global recognition. Modi thanked the artists for their heartfelt reception.
On social media platform ‘X’, he shared, “Five Italian enthusiasts of Indian dance—Swamini Atmanand Giri, Martina Meenakshi Argada, Lucrezia Maniscotti, Valeria Vespasiani, and Rossella Fenelli—performed ‘Trigalbandi,’ showcasing Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and Kathak. It’s remarkable to see global interest in Indian dance forms.”
In another post, he noted, “Indian music is gaining popularity in Italy. During the community welcome event in Rome, five Italian artists presented ‘Hansadhvani.’ Congratulations to Valerio Bruni (santoor), Leo Vartuni (sitar), Simone Mattiello (flute), Francesco Gherardi (tabla), and Nicolo Melocchi (flute).”
Speaking to reporters, several members of the Indian community in Italy expressed pride in meeting the Prime Minister and joy at India’s rising international image.
One community member stated, “Today, I felt as if I met God. This is the second time I’ve met him, and it brought me immense joy.”
A member of the Hindu Union in Italy praised the Prime Minister’s influence and presence, saying, “Whenever he visits, his presence is very impactful. Seeing him makes Indians happy that India is progressing and will continue to do so.”
Another artist, Francesco Gherardi, mentioned that the Prime Minister interacted with the performers during the event. “His presence was felt. He applauded during our performance and gave us great energy. We were thrilled to shake hands and take pictures with him,” he said.
Artist Simone Mattiello described the event as joyful, noting that the Prime Minister seemed to connect with them. “Our performance was filled with happiness, and I believe he felt our connection. He applauded, so it seems he enjoyed our performance,” he remarked.
Musician Nicolo Melocchi stated that performing in front of the Prime Minister and having a brief conversation was a “great opportunity.”
Artist Valerio Bruni observed that the Prime Minister appeared excited during the presentation and appreciated the team’s efforts.
