Imphal, August 16: Manipur’s Chief Minister, Yumkham Khemchand Singh, emphasized on Saturday that peace is the cornerstone of development. He stated that lasting stability can only be achieved through mutual trust, justice, respect, and the participation of all communities.
While hoisting the national flag at the First Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, the Chief Minister condemned the unfortunate incident in Kangpokpi district on Friday, where two Naga farmers were killed and two others injured. He urged all sections of society to strengthen mutual trust and live together peacefully.
Acknowledging the support provided by the central government in restoring peace in the state, Chief Minister Singh called on the people to work collectively towards peace, development, and a stronger Manipur.
The event included cultural presentations from four groups under the Department of Art and Culture, along with the launch of a special edition of the Manipur magazine on Saturday.
Remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and ancestors who contributed to India’s independence, the Chief Minister highlighted the country’s progress in infrastructure, manufacturing, innovation, and inclusive development.
He noted that initiatives launched under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and Digital India are creating job opportunities, strengthening domestic manufacturing, and improving access to public services and digital payments.
Referring to the vision of a ‘Developed India’, Chief Minister Singh stated that the goal is to transform India into a developed, self-reliant, and globally competitive nation by 2047.
Highlighting development initiatives in Manipur, the Chief Minister mentioned ongoing infrastructure projects in both rural and urban areas. Health services are being extended to remote hilly regions through mobile medical units, PM-JANMAN, and the Dharati Aba Tribal Village Utkars campaign.
He also emphasized the efforts under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 to strengthen rural drinking water supply across the state.
On the topic of rural livelihoods and employment, the Chief Minister announced that guaranteed employment under the Developed India—Guaranteed Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) has been extended from 100 days to 125 days, with wages increased from 263 to 300 rupees.
He also highlighted the Prime Minister’s Developed India Employment Scheme aimed at promoting formal employment.
In the agricultural sector, he mentioned the establishment of a bio-reactor unit for bio-fertilizer production at CSIR-NEST to promote organic farming and improve soil fertility.
