Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has welcomed a new addition to his garage – the Tesla Model Y. The electric vehicle delivery marks the end of a nine-year wait that began when he originally booked a Tesla Model 3 for the Indian market, which was later cancelled due to the company’s delayed launch plans.

Photos shared on social media show Sharma taking delivery of his new Tesla Model Y, with images posted by both Tesla India and Sharma on his social media accounts. This delivery represents Tesla’s first car to be delivered in the Indian market.

Euro NCAP 5-Star Safety Rating

The Tesla Model Y has achieved a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP testing, conducted under the latest safety assessment protocols. This achievement is particularly significant as Tesla has recently entered India’s premium electric vehicle segment, where safety credentials are a crucial factor alongside other features.

While Euro NCAP tested the left-hand-drive, dual-motor AWD configuration, the agency clarified that these results also apply to the right-hand-drive Model Y Long Range RWD variant. The Performance AWD model also falls within the same rating bracket.

Tesla has equipped the Model Y with comprehensive safety hardware and software. The assessment highlighted features including 10 airbags, ISOFIX mounts, seatbelt reminders with pretensioners, autonomous emergency braking, and a driver-attentiveness monitor. The vehicle’s structural integrity also played a vital role, with Euro NCAP commenting on its ability to maintain structural stability during major impact tests.

Pricing and Features

In India, the Tesla Model Y Standard RWD variant is priced at Rs 59.9 lakh ex-showroom, while the Long Range version carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 67.9 lakh.

The Tesla Model Y RWD offers a range of 500 kilometres, while the Long Range variant can travel 622 kilometres on a single charge. The vehicle features a 15.4-inch touchscreen that controls all car functions, along with a 7.2-inch rear screen for passengers to watch videos or adjust temperature settings.

The Model Y accommodates five passengers and provides 2,130 litres of boot space. When fully folded, it can accommodate camping gear, suitcases, and even small furniture items.

Safety features include multiple airbags, forward collision warning, active emergency braking, and a strong body structure, making it one of Tesla’s safest vehicles.
