New Delhi, December 1 – Scotland has appointed Owen Dawkins as the new head coach of their men’s national cricket team. He will replace Doug Watson, who left the team in September after a two-year tenure. Dawkins had previously worked with Scotland as a consultant.

Owen Dawkins is a well-known name in England’s domestic cricket circuit. He has been providing full-time coaching at Gloucestershire since 2006. Dawkins believes he can change Scotland’s fortunes under his guidance. Former Scotland captain Gordon Drummond will assist Dawkins in this role.

Expressing his happiness on getting this role, Owen Dawkins said, “I feel this is the right opportunity for where the team and I are. I genuinely believe I can make an impact on the team’s performance.”

The European team had a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup Qualifier. Their match against Guernsey was cancelled due to rain. After this, Scotland defeated Netherlands by 6 runs, but then lost to Italy by 12 runs and subsequently lost to Jersey by 1 wicket.

Born on November 23, 1978, in Gloucestershire, Owen Dawkins played List-A cricket between 2002 and 2004. However, his performance in 5 List-A matches was not encouraging. He scored just 29 runs in 3 innings with an average of 9.66. During this period, Dawkins also took one wicket with the ball.

Owen Dawkins said, “We still have a very talented senior group that we can really work with to push forward and move ahead again. For me, with the upcoming tournaments in 2027 and 2028, this timing is perfect. We have some big targets ahead that we need to achieve.”
