Munger, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : A troubling incident unfolded at Munger Engineering College in Bihar on Friday evening when over 35 students became ill. Symptoms reported included vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and weakness, raising concerns about a possible food poisoning outbreak.
The college administration quickly arranged for an ambulance to transport the affected students to the local sadar hospital. After receiving initial treatment, most of the students were discharged and returned to their hostel.
Reports indicate that an assistant professor and several staff members also exhibited similar symptoms. Although food poisoning is suspected, the exact cause of the illnesses has yet to be confirmed.
According to sources, prasad was prepared on Thursday for the Vishwakarma Puja celebration, which was consumed by students, professors, and staff. Some students began to show symptoms as early as Thursday, but a significant number reported vomiting and diarrhea on Friday evening.
Upon learning of the widespread illness among hostel residents, the college administration acted swiftly to ensure the students received medical attention. Dr. Shambhu Shankar, the acting principal, visited the hostel to assess the situation alongside college staff. Dr. Faizuddin at the hospital confirmed that over three dozen students were treated for gastrointestinal symptoms.
After treatment and care, the students’ conditions improved, allowing them to return to their hostel. Dr. Shambhu Shankar cautioned against jumping to conclusions about food poisoning being the definitive cause. He noted that the prasad was consumed by a broader group, including faculty and staff, and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted. Should any negligence be identified during the inquiry, appropriate actions will be taken.
