
Gandhinagar, March 9: The Gujarat government announced in the state assembly that over 2,900 beneficiaries in Rajkot district have received loan assistance under the Shri Vajpayee Bankable Scheme in the past year.
In response to a question from an assembly member, State Minister for Khadi, Cottage and Rural Industries, Swarupji Thakor, revealed that a total of 4,157 applications had been received in Rajkot district by December 31, 2025.
All applications were forwarded to banks for consideration. The minister noted that banks approved 2,913 applications, providing beneficiaries with the necessary loans.
Thakor also provided updates regarding the scheme in Kutch district. During the same period, Kutch received 1,919 applications, out of which 1,915 were sent to banks. Banks approved 1,463 of these applications, granting loan assistance to the beneficiaries.
The minister informed the assembly that the financial limits of the scheme have recently been increased. Previously, loans up to 8 lakh rupees were available, with subsidies up to 1.25 lakh rupees.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the loan limit has been raised to 25 lakh rupees, and the subsidy limit has been increased to 3.75 lakh rupees.
The Shri Vajpayee Bankable Scheme provides financial support in the form of loans and subsidies to promote small businesses, industries, and service sector activities.
This initiative is aimed at citizens aged 18 to 65 in Gujarat who have completed at least the fourth grade or possess relevant training or work experience.
There is no income limit for applying under this scheme. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official portal. Upon approval, nationalized or cooperative banks provide the loans.
The government states that the objective of this scheme is to promote self-employment by making institutional loans available to individuals looking to start or expand small businesses.
