Washington, March 15: The brutal murder of Nancy Grewal, a vocal critic of Khalistani extremism and a Canadian citizen, has sparked serious concerns about women’s safety and freedom of expression across Canada. Reports indicate that this incident has also highlighted the influence of extremist networks active in Canada and North America.
Sanjay Lazar, a lawyer and writer for ‘Global Strat View’, noted that numerous political and social analysts are calling for a ban on Khalistani organizations, stringent action against those involved in violent activities, and stricter measures against terrorist activities operating from religious sites.
According to reports, these organizations are believed to have an impact on the network of gurdwaras in Canada, which are allegedly being used as conduits for illegal arms, drugs, and human trafficking.
The report mentions that Nancy Grewal was outspoken against influential figures at the Windsor gurdwara and in other parts of Canada. She had accused some individuals from Punjab of aiding Khalistani forces.
It has been reported that Nancy received warnings from several individuals at her local gurdwara to remain silent. Being a member of the Sikh community, she opposed efforts to turn gurdwaras into hubs for Khalistani terrorism.
According to the report, she had received nearly 40 death threats. In November 2025, her home was also attacked with arson; however, she was not provided police protection despite these threats.
The report alleges that Windsor police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) failed to take adequate action in the case, even though video footage and street camera recordings related to the attack were available.
Questions have been raised about why police made no substantial progress in the case despite the arson incident in November 2025.
Nancy’s mother, Shinder Pal Grewal, has alleged that those responsible for the earlier arson attack on her daughter’s home could also be behind the murder. She stated that the police were repeatedly informed about the threats her daughter received, yet no effective action was taken.
