Operation Trashi-1: Encounter Ongoing in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, January 31 – Security forces have launched a major operation named Operation Trashi-1 against terrorists in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Early Saturday morning, a fierce encounter broke out between security personnel and militants.

The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps shared an update on the social media platform X, stating that during the ongoing joint Operation Trashi-1, troops from the White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF re-established contact with terrorists in the Dolgam area on the morning of January 31. All available intelligence sources were coordinated to carry out the operation. The area has been cordoned off and the encounter is still underway.

As a precautionary measure, authorities had suspended mobile internet services in a large area including the Dolgam encounter site on Friday to maintain security.

Earlier, on January 18, security forces had engaged in a prolonged gunfight with terrorists during a search operation in the Sonar area, northeast of Chatru in Kishtwar. The intense firefight lasted for several hours, resulting in the martyrdom of an army paratrooper.

Paying tribute to the fallen soldier, the army posted on January 19 on X, “The GOC, White Knight Corps, and all ranks pay homage to Special Forces Havildar Gajendra Singh, who made the supreme sacrifice while bravely conducting counter-terrorism operations in Singpura during Operation Trashi-1 on the night of January 19.”

The army further stated, “We honour his indomitable courage, bravery, and selfless dedication to duty, and stand in solidarity with his grieving family during this difficult time.”

Since January 19, security forces have continued their search operations to track down the terrorists. After twelve days of intensive efforts, they located the militants in Dolgam village where the encounter is currently ongoing.
