Odisha to Develop Silicon Valley with ₹23,600 Crore Investment Proposal

Odisha announces plans for a Silicon Valley in Cuttack, attracting ₹23,600 crore in investments and promising job creation.

Bhubaneswar, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chara Majhi announced on Friday the establishment of a ‘Silicon Valley’ in Naraj, Cuttack district. This initiative aims to position the region as a hub for semiconductor, electronics, and IT projects.

The announcement was made during the Semicon India 2026 seminar held in New Delhi. The proposed Odisha Silicon Valley will span 870 acres, providing a strategic location for connectivity and industrial infrastructure.

According to an official statement, the site in Naraj offers seamless access to the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar urban corridor and connects efficiently to major ports like Paradip and Dhamra. Its proximity to key national highways enhances its potential as a strategic center for the semiconductor supply chain, logistics, and related industries.

The government emphasized that semiconductor manufacturing facilities require a reliable supply of water and electricity. Located near the Mahanadi River, Naraj presents a significant geographical advantage for meeting industrial water needs.

With its connectivity and infrastructure capabilities, Naraj is poised to serve as a solid foundation for developing a world-class semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.

During the conference, Odisha received investment proposals worth approximately ₹23,600 crore, which could create around 6,100 job opportunities. This marks a significant step for the state under the Semicon 2.0 initiative, aimed at building a comprehensive semiconductor value chain.

At Semicon India 2026, the Chief Minister held high-level meetings with global and domestic semiconductor and technology companies, industry bodies, and international delegations from Japan, Sweden, and Taiwan.

These discussions included signing a Letter of Intent to establish a semiconductor plant for SIC substrates production in collaboration with QuadQuantum, further strengthening Odisha’s involvement in the semiconductor and technology ecosystem.

The Odisha Pavilion showcased projects from various institutions, including RIR Power, SICSEM, 3DGS, ARF Design, and NIT Rourkela, which are working on the design of the first batch of ‘Make in India’ chips.
