Mumbai, March 18: In a significant operation on Wednesday, police in Sambalpur district conducted an encounter with notorious criminal Tima Jhankar and his associates. During the encounter, Jhankar sustained injuries, leading to his capture by the police team.
The incident took place in the Dumchali forest area under the Raigarh police station jurisdiction. According to police sources, Jhankar was shot in his right leg and was immediately transported to Vimsar Hospital for treatment. Additionally, police apprehended three of Jhankar’s accomplices during the operation. They seized a pistol, cartridges, and a vehicle, among other items used by the suspects in their criminal activities.
Reports indicate that police received a tip-off about Jhankar and his gang hiding in the Dumchali forest. Subsequently, police launched a raid early Wednesday morning. As the police attempted to apprehend the criminals, Jhankar opened fire on them. In response, police fired back, resulting in Jhankar being injured.
During the encounter, police recovered a pistol, live cartridges, a vehicle, wire cutters, and other tools used for cutting electric transmission wires from Jhankar’s possession. Furthermore, three of his accomplices were arrested at the scene.
Authorities revealed that Tima Jhankar, also known as Dhaneshwar Jhankar, is a notorious criminal with over 41 criminal cases registered against him across various police stations. His charges include robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and serious offenses related to the theft of aluminum and electric transmission wires.
The police are currently interrogating the arrested suspects to determine if they were involved in any additional crimes.
