North Eastern Council Allocates ₹5.73 Crore for Key Development Projects in Mizoram

Aizawl, March 9: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released ₹5,73,69,245 for Mizoram in February 2026. This funding will support several vital development initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure, agriculture, and public service delivery in the state.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, this amount is part of a larger allocation of ₹67.41 crore distributed across the northeastern region in February, aimed at promoting balanced regional development.

One of the key projects supported by this allocation is the construction of a market building in West Phaileng, Mamit district. This facility will provide better marketing infrastructure and opportunities for local farmers and traders.

The NEC is also backing the development of a potato seed farm in the state, utilizing tissue culture and apical rooted cutting techniques. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of high-quality seeds, strengthen agricultural value chains, and enhance farmers’ productivity.

Another significant project is the establishment of a central medical warehouse in Aizawl, which will improve medical logistics by enhancing the storage and distribution of essential medicines and supplies in the state.

Additionally, the NEC is supporting the construction of a State Veterinary Information and Resource Center, which will aid in improving veterinary services and promote livestock development through the dissemination of technical resources and information.

Reports indicate that Mizoram has emerged as the fastest-growing state in terms of tourist arrivals among the eight northeastern states, driven by a surge in foreign tourists. A senior official from the Mizoram tourism department reported that from April to December 2025, a total of 6,79,607 tourists visited the state, including 6,70,001 domestic and local tourists, along with 9,606 foreign visitors. This figure represents a 29.50 percent increase over the previous financial year’s total tourist arrivals, highlighting a remarkable surge in tourism growth.
