New Zealands Lockie Ferguson Ruled Out of T20 Series Against India Due to Injury

Lockie Ferguson will miss the remaining T20 matches against India due to a calf injury, prompting his replacement in the New Zealand squad.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : New Zealand‘s cricket team has received a significant setback as star fast bowler Lockie Ferguson will miss the remaining two matches of the T20 series against India due to injury. Ferguson experienced pain in his right calf during the second T20 match, and subsequent scans revealed a minor tear in the muscle. He is expected to take about a week to recover before returning to the field.

In Ferguson’s absence, Matt Fisher has been added to New Zealand’s T20 squad. During the same match, fellow bowler Matt Henry also felt discomfort in his right thigh. Scans indicated that he has a slight tear, which may require one to two weeks for recovery. New Zealand’s head coach, Rob Walter, expressed his disappointment for both players, stating, “Injuries are part of international cricket, but it’s never easy to have to miss matches.”

Walter noted that the silver lining for Matt is that he was already slated to miss the remaining T20 matches due to a busy summer schedule, and they hope he will play a crucial role in the upcoming One Day Internationals. He acknowledged Ferguson’s eagerness to play in front of a packed Eden Park crowd but confirmed that Ferguson is fully committed to returning for the ODI matches.

The five-match T20 series has seen the Indian team take an unassailable 3-0 lead. In the third T20, India showcased an impressive performance, defeating New Zealand by six wickets. New Zealand batted first, scoring 198 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. However, India chased down the target in just 13.2 overs, losing four wickets. Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 45 runs off 19 balls, while Abhishek Sharma had a stunning innings, amassing 113 runs off just 38 balls.
