New Zealands Devon Conway Out of First ODI Against India Due to Injury
Devon Conway will miss the first ODI against India after suffering a concussion during training. New Zealand faces a significant setback.

Auckland, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The first ODI between India and New Zealand is set to begin on Wednesday, November 3, 2026, in Auckland. However, New Zealand has suffered a major setback as experienced opener Devon Conway will not participate due to an injury.
Conway collided with fast bowler Matt Henry during a training session at Eden Park on Tuesday. The incident occurred while both players were attempting to catch a ball. Immediate medical attention was provided on-site, where it was confirmed that Conway had sustained a concussion and suffered a head injury.
According to New Zealand Cricket, “Conway has been taken to the emergency department for further evaluation, where his concussion was confirmed, ruling him out of the first ODI against India on Wednesday. Both players will be monitored, and their participation in the ODI series against India will be assessed.”
Conway’s injury adds to New Zealand’s growing list of sidelined players. All-rounder Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra have already withdrawn from the ODI series due to hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.
Wicketkeeper and opener Tim Seifert was initially selected for the first two ODIs, but on Monday, he was included in the Kiwi squad for the entire series against India. Captain Mitchell Santner hinted that Seifert might step in for Conway.
In a media interaction, Santner stated, “I think Seifert is a backup batsman for our team. If Devon is unable to play, this could be a direct opportunity for him. However, Conway has been excellent in ODI cricket.”
New Zealand has already lost the T20 series against India, making Conway’s absence from the first ODI a significant blow to the team’s morale.
The 35-year-old left-handed opener has scored 1,692 runs in 43 ODIs, with five centuries and six half-centuries to his name. His highest score is an unbeaten 152 runs.
