New Home for Cheetahs: Virangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi, March 25: The Virangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, is set to become a new home for cheetahs. This marks the third location in the state for their reintroduction. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has gifted wildlife enthusiasts and residents of Bundelkhand a historic initiative on his birthday.

The Chief Minister performed a ceremonial ground-breaking for a soft release boma, a significant step towards the rehabilitation of cheetahs in the reserve. Following the success of the Cheetah Project at Kuno National Park, cheetahs have now been reintroduced to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, and Virangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve is being developed as their new habitat.

Wildlife experts explain that the soft release boma technique involves creating large enclosures in a designated area, where cheetahs will be monitored as they acclimate to their new environment.

The Chief Minister stated that this project will not only strengthen wildlife conservation but also open new avenues for eco-tourism and employment in Bundelkhand. Experts believe that the density and grasslands of Virangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve are highly suitable for cheetahs.

Yadav emphasized that after Kuno, the Virangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve will become a new center for cheetah activities. He clarified that the state government is committed to the conservation of terrestrial, avian, and aquatic species in a mission mode.

He added that the true beauty of the forest lies in its wildlife. This initiative is expected to elevate the natural balance and tourism in Bundelkhand while creating new job opportunities.
